Getting into Paris libertin (swinger) clubs

Libertin not swinger
The libertin scene in France is different to english speaking countries. The term swinger is unknown, the French attitude is relaxed and there are few rules. Libertin is far more than exchanging partners. Everybody in France knows about this mentality and only a few disapprove. The French attitude to lovers, affairs and mistresses is world famous.

Respect is automatic and privacy is guaranteed. This is an area where French journalists excpect to enjoy themselves and write positive things. This enables the libertin lifestyle to extend far outside clubs.

In France, you can do anything once you are 18 years old.

Opening times
Paris libertin clubs are open most weekdays and at weekends. Many clubs are open in the afternoons to cater for couples who live in the provinces but work in Paris.

No registration required in clubs
All Paris clubs are private, very private. Some clubs are difficult to find, some do not have the name on the door. Membership does not exist and ID is never required. Many clubs have a restaurant. When reserving, only a first name is required.

Door policy
Door policy at Paris libertin clubs needs to be understood.

Telephone first - clubs speak good enough english. Ask if it’s couples only or if single men are admitted. Ask what time to arrive. Leave a first name.

Dress correctly:
men - no jeans, no trainers/sneakers - shirt, trousers, shoes - no tie
women - no trousers - skirt or dress - as sexy as possible

When you arrive, you will ring a bell at an anonymous door. There will be a delay while you are examined on CCTV. Nobody will run to the door for your money, be patient. The door will open and you will be looked up and down from head to toe by an unsmiling face. Then the door is opened wide and you are in.

Many foreigners complain that the welcome is cold at the door in French libertin clubs. It’s just French. The proprietors of the clubs do not want trouble. They are particular about who they let inside. It’s a serious business.

Be warned, there are two Paris libertin clubs which have a reputation for being very exclusive, so exclusive that French people do not understand their door policy. For the other clubs, you should not have a problem.
